A LOVE LETTER TO MY HERITAGE
From Romania To Mississauga
Dear Romania, you gave me my first court, my first coach, and my first real taste of what it means to believe. Before the trophies and the Grand Slams, there were cold mornings and cracked tennis balls on community courts just outside my childhood home. You taught me grit before glamor. I still remember running drills until the sun dipped below the skyline, the smell of fresh snow mixing with sweat and determination. Mississauga, you raised me with resilience, with kindness, and with a fire that never learned to dim. You made me believe that greatness could grow anywhere—even in the corners of Canada where the spotlight rarely shines.
Now, every time I step onto a world stage, I carry you with me. In the way I fight for every point. In the way I hold myself with quiet strength. In the way I honor the people who gave me everything when I had nothing but a racquet and a dream. You’ve always been more than a hometown—you’ve been my foundation. And no matter how far I go, I never forget the place that shaped me, the coaches who lifted me, and the community that believed before the world did.

Canada will always be where my story began—on cracked courts, under wide skies, surrounded by a community that believed in me before the world knew my name. Every time I step on the court, I carry that love with me, and I hope to make my country as proud as it has made me grateful.
